Obama/??? ‘08 & McCain/??? ‘08

July 31st, 2008

July 31st, 2008Brian Dennert of Brian Dennert here… recently posted a blog entry regarding VP picks for the two current Presidential candidates and I tell ya, I’ve been wondering about Barack Obama’s picks, and even John McCain’s but less so because no matter who he picks I’m not voting for him.

Brian mentions Tim Kaine after reading a Wikipedia entry about him, and definitely not a bad choice, but not my first pick, were I Senator Obama…

No matter who reads this, my top choices are:

  • Senator Jim Webb (VA)
  • Senator Evan Bayh (IN)
  • Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.)
  • Senator John Edwards
  • General James L. Jones (USMC, Ret.)

Basically I have two types of candidates:

Either a similarly charismatic legislator (former or current) or executive…

Or a seasoned military veteran/general who can help negate Senator McCain’s military experience and expertise.

In the two categories lie my choice for VP, but the choice isn’t mine.

Two items of note:

There is a new third party candidate party emerging:

Big Brother ‘08

But wait, just in…

Senator John McCain has announced his VP pick!!!

McCain/Mack ‘08

Surprisingly, the Senator has picked

  1. A Democrat, the McCain campaign hoping to offset the much soiled Republican brand, with a unity ticket.
  2. A man too young to run as VP, being 9 years under the age minimum to run for office as a member of the Presidential ticket…in hopes of offsetting the “age” factor.

We’ll have to see what new developments arise.

I need to post more.

Bush’s Psalm

May 27th, 2008

May 27th, 2008 My Dad was going through some old college papers when he came upon this gem:

Bush’s Psalm

I changed the names to better suit today’s circumstances. Apparently there is a correlation between the governing style of George W. Bush and Richard M. Nixon, as the mock psalm has just as much relevance today as it did a few decades ago.

Here is the text only version with some minor corrections (most in brackets, some not, some errors left as is):

Bush’s Psalm

Bush is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He leadeth me beside the steel factories.

He restoreth my doubts in the Republican Party.

He guideth me to the path of unemployment for the party’ sake.

I do not fear evil for thou art against me.

Thou anoiteth my wages with freezes so that

My expense[s] run over my income.

Surely poverty and hard living shall follow the Republican[s]

And I shall live in a rented house forever.

5,000 years ago Moses said: “Park your camel, pick up your shovel, mount your ass, and I shall lead you to the promised land.”

5,000 years later, F. D. Roosevelt said: “Lay down your shovel, sit on your ass, light up a camel, this is the promised land.”

Today Bush will tax your shovel, sell your camel, kick your ass, and tell you there is no promised land.”

I am glad I am an American.

I am glad [that] I am free.

B[u]t I wish I were a doggie

And Bush were a tree.

I Support Jay Kapitz and Sandy Emberland for District 24 Obama Delegates

April 11th, 2008

April 11th, 2008Jay Kapitz and Sandy Emberland, two local grassroots activists are running to be delegates for Obama for the 24th Congressional District on Sunday. I support them both for the slots, and can vouch for their hard work and dedication firsthand.

Jay’s info is as such:
Jay Kapitz

Grassroots Activist Democratic Party

  • Election Strategy Chair Democratic Club of the Conejo Valley
  • California Democratic Party Central Committee Member
  • Ventura County Democratic Central Committee Alternate
  • Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council Chair

  • Ventura County John Kerry Campaign Chair
  • Ventura County Wesley Clark Campaign Coordinator
  • Traveled to swing states including final weeks in Florida for Kerry Campaign

  • Part Owner of Pacific Shores Hospital in Oxnard

Jay had this to say:

“On November 7, 2000, I realized that every single vote really can make a difference. Since then I have organized hundreds of volunteers and personally walked, called and registered thousands of voters so that we may take back our country.

I was fortunate to have attended Senator Obama rallies in California and Nevada. In Nevada I had the honor of shaking his hand. In my heart and mind I knew that I had seen, heard and met the next president of the United States. He is the most capable and electable Democratic Party presidential candidate I have known in my lifetime. I would be honored and 100% committed to be a delegate and cast a vote on behalf of the 24th congressional district for Barack Obama.”

– Jay Kapitz

Sandy had this to say:

“More than a year ago I attended an Obama Rally in Los Angeles. As I listened to Barack Obama speak I knew I was listening to the next great leader of our country. I came home, put an Obama bumper sticker on my car and started working toward that goal. I am convinced that he has the leadership qualities that our country is so lacking.

I want the USA to stand tall in the eyes of the world, and do the right things. Barack Obama has the vision and judgment to lead our country to greatness. I believe he has the charisma of John Kennedy and the star power of Elvis - Go Obama.

I have been active within the Conejo Democratic Club since moving to Thousand Oaks 11 years ago. I have served as fundraising chair, organizing the Garden Party, Wine for Winners, Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, Pancake Breakfast Voter Kick-off, BBQ Voter Roundup last year. In addition, I have served as secretary, membership chair, and webmaster. In prior years I coordinated a Pep Rally Breakfast with former First Lady Sharon Davis, Garden Parties with Lila Garrett & Stephanie Miller as speakers.

As an elected member of the Ventura County Democratic Central Committee for 4 years, I was the event coordinator, and successfully organized a Labor Day Picnic and 2 book signing events. One was with Senator Barbara Boxer, which was her first visit to Ventura County. I have been a delegate to the State Convention for the past 5 years. I am running for a third term in the June Primary election.

I strongly believe that voter registration is the key to successful campaigns, and I have helped to register hundreds of Democrats in Ventura County at Conejo Valley Days, tabling at The Oaks Mall, VC Fair, TO Street Fair, walking door to door of new residents and other events. I am thrilled to see that Ventura County is now a BLUE county with Democratic registration outnumbering Republicans.

I recently helped organize the Vote Blue Jack and Bobby Kennedy Dinner in February. I secured Talk Show Host Stephanie Miller as one of the keynote speakers.

I will not waiver in my support of Senator Barack Obama to be our next President. I am 100% True Blue Barack!! Together we can get our country back - I want to witness history in Denver. Thanks for your support.”

Barack Obama District 24 Delegate Caucus

April 13th Caucuses: Update

April 10th, 2008

April 10th, 2008I recently received an email from David Plouffe, Senator Barack Obama’s Campaign Manager regarding the caucuses for April 13th (locations and time to be posted on this site ASAP). Apparently a good number of accepted “Form A” or District Wide Delegate applicants were rejected in a final list issued yesterday by the campaigns, myself included, and posted by the California Democratic party on their website. But this email has reversed that decision and all initially accepted applicants may campaign at the caucus location for each Congressional District to become a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in August. I personally was angered by their previous decision initially, but decided instead to file as a “Form B” or an “At-Large” candidate in support of Senator Barack Obama. Regardless here is the email:

Dear Brian,

There has been an extraordinary outpouring of grassroots support for Senator Obama among Democrats and Independents in all 53 California Congressional districts.

In recognition of this tremendous enthusiasm, our campaign has asked the California Democratic Party to allow all persons who have filed to be a district delegate candidate for Senator Obama at the Democratic National Convention to participate in the caucuses this Sunday, April 13, 2008.

We are confident that delegates elected from this pool will reflect the Senator’s commitment to a diverse and unified delegation at the National Convention.

An overwhelming number of supporters have signed up to run for delegate, so there will likely be lines and tight space at the caucus locations. We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation.

Most of all, please enjoy this opportunity to meet other Obama supporters and elect delegate candidates to the Convention in Denver.

If you have any questions, please contact Daryl Sprague at dsprague@barackobama.com.

Thanks for your interest and active participation in Barack’s campaign to change politics and change America.

I think the campaign made the right choice in doing so, and give them kudos for ensuring a democratic process for the delegate candidate selection.

Brian For Obama is launched.

April 9th, 2008

April 9th, 2008It’s April and I have decided after almost six months of political inactivity to get moving and create this blog as way to support my presidential candidate of choice: Senator Barack Obama.

It’s been a long time since 2000, when as a U.S. Marine stationed on Okinawa, Japan, I considered registering as a Republican (I was Decline to State at the time) to vote for Senator John McCain for President. But George W. Bush won the Republican Primary and I was not very interested in voting for George W. Bush even though I was a conservative at the time, and ended up voting for Al Gore for President. A vote I will never regret, and endlessly thank myself for. Wheeeew!

This blog will be my forum on the political campaign as we draw nearer and nearer to election day, as well as my tool to help fundraise and draw support for Senator Obama in his campaign for President. If you’re reading this for the first time and if you know me from my previous, Watchdog Blog, and were disappointed at the inactivity that ensued, have no fear, I will be posting on this blog until the election results are certified, and at that point may rekindle my postings on The Watchdog Blog.

Only time will tell…

Until then, feel free to check out my Blogroll, and see who I am linking to. Donate to my fundraising page, or email me at brian@brianforobama.com.

Either way, thank you for visiting BrianForObama.com.
